I originally wrote this for LinkedIn; I edited it slightly for this blog. You can find the original post here.
I don’t know exactly what to say. The truth is I am disgusted by the hate and disregard for our fellow humans that I see perpetrated over and over again against people who are not in a position to fight back, who are simply not respected enough as fellow humans because of their race. It is gross and maddening and shameful.
I recognize that I enjoy vast privileges in my life that I bear no responsibility for, and I’m sure I don’t even see the half of it. Yes, I work hard and have worked hard, but that does not negate the fact that I have been playing on easy mode compared to many. Why can’t more of us honestly and frankly accept that and try to share that gift?
Be kind. LOVE your fellow humans, regardless of where they are from, what they look like, what language they speak, or who they love or how they worship.
But right now, ESPECIALLY love those who have been the victims of a system stacked against them from day one. Is that so damned hard? Just love and SEE people!!
We have a long way to go, so let’s start now.
Love people. Make someone’s day brighter. Care. None of us is perfect and we will all have bad days when we fall short. Try again. Be kind, give love.
