I thought this morning prayer, recited by Daily Alice shortly after “the sun broke in at her eastward windows with a noise like music,” captured a wonderful, playful gratitude for life and the natural world.
O great wide beautiful wonderful World
With the wonderful waters around you curled
And the beautiful grass upon your breast
O World you are beautifully dressed.
—Daily Alice in Little, Big by John Crowley
I’ve only just begun to read Little, Big and it has already become a favorite for its lilting prose and whimsy.
