One interesting thing that AI has done for me is unlock the ability to create things that I otherwise would not have.
I shipped more code in the last 3 weeks than the decade before. The top AI models / agentic systems right now are an entirely different thing to what people used until the beginning of December. —Tobi Lütke
Unlike Tobi, I am not a coder. But like Tobi, my production of code has skyrocketed of late. After making approximately zero useful software over the previous 40 years, I’ve shipped a bunch of fun stuff in just the last 10 months.
- daily focus app
- timer for project work
- app to help actors learn their lines (my son’s great idea)
- uposatha tracker
- new intelligent client contact workflow
- app to help architects navigate the MA Stretch Energy Code
- a game to create engagement with a conference presentation
I made most of these just in the last couple of months to solve specific problems. Most of them are not for a broad audience, which is the point.
I think that leveraging AI to create your own bespoke tools, crafted to suit your exact needs, is one of the most impactful new skills to learn in 2026.
