Today, I share a couple of bits of wisdom related to forgiveness. I read the first, from an article in Tricycle, exactly a year ago. It spoke to me enough that I recorded it in my journal on October 31, 2019.
When we feel conflict with others, understanding their suffering is the first step in being able to communicate, forgive, and begin again.
Michele McDonald, “Finding Patience”
The second, from a paperback I recently picked up at a local book sale, came to me this morning. a mindful year is a collection of daily readings and invitations towards mindfulness and peace. Today’s quote tells us that forgiveness doesn’t just happen—it requires intent.
Forgiveness is an act of the will, and the will can function regardless of the temperature of the heart.
Corrie Ten Boom, quoted in a mindful year by Dr. Aria Campbell-Danesh and Dr. Seth J. Gillihan
The messages of these two quotes go hand in hand. Understanding the first can help implement the second.
