The Terrasse Dufferin

So, there’s room for improvement in my timeliness when it comes to posting to this site. I’m working on it. Slowly. Sort of.

Anyway, I was in Quebec over Christmas this past December. I started most mornings around dawn walking up to the Terrasse Dufferin overlooking the St. Lawrence River for sunrise before warming up in a coffee shop (mostly Café La Maison Smith).

I found this boardwalk area to be a photographer’s dream. Here are a few of my favorite images from those early morning expeditions.

Through Appalachia

It’s road trip time.

This is a big country. Tennessee feels as far from New England as many international destinations I’ve explored.

It strikes me that it’s no wonder we have some apparently-major divisions in the US. We are living all kinds of different experiences.

But while daily life in rural Tennessee or Pennsylvania may not look much like it does in Boston or New York, at the core we’re all after the same things: happiness, security, freedom, and prosperity for ourselves and our children being near the top of the list.

We should all strive to walk a bit in each other’s shoes, even if only in our minds. Cultivate empathy and compassion. Give the benefit of the doubt.

The people of this country have aspired to high ideals for nearly 250 years. We fall short, but we keep trying. Let’s not lose sight of the goal, and let’s not forget that we’re all in it together.

Happy 4th.

Here are some photos as the road trip moved out of New England and into Appalachia.
